January is Personal Self-Defense Awareness Month

Happy New Year and Happy 2025!

January is Personal Self-Defense Awareness Month, and for me here at Girls Fight Back and Empowered Journeys, it's every month of the year! I’ll be sharing stats, info, and busting some common myths throughout the month to help you unleash your inner badass. When we can alleviate fear, we open up our access to the world.

We deserve to have access to life-saving information so that we can have full agency over our lives and heal.

Self-defense training is much more than physical skills and knowing that you have options for recognizing & responding to danger, violence or uncomfortable encounters can increase your confidence in so many ways.

Unfortunately, most violence we face comes from people we know...NOT strangers. That's why the life skills I teach are immediately useful for all types of interpersonal relationships.

Evidence-based research over the last 40+ years support the finding that empowerment-based self-defense training (like what I teach!):

📣can significantly reduce the risk of experiencing violence

📣has the potential to deter an assailant before an attack WITHOUT increasing the risk of injury.

My work at Girls Fight Back has also been published in peer-reviewed journals!

Yes, you can live your life without restricting your activities with the laundry list of "safety do’s/don'ts" we always hear about. Yes, you can take that solo trip, go for that run, walk at night, go on that solo hike, go on dates, and so much more!

I want you to live limitlessly with actionable skills you can use for a lifetime in a variety of situations. Not just worst-case scenarios.

REMEMBER, no one is ever to blame for violence that was committed against them. Self-defense is NOT about what you "should do"... it's about what you "can" do. Whatever someone does (or did) to survive is the right thing to do. Believe and support survivors.

You are worth fighting for!
